SIEM REAP (ANGKOR WAT) CYCLING TOUR

TOUR NAME: ESSENTIAL ANGKOR (FULL DAY)
Departure Date: Everyday (Guaranteed Departure with minimum 02 people)

Trip Profile:

No one knows Cambodia better than our local people. As a local company, we have been following our vision to take tourists to see REAL Cambodia by bike. For visiting Angkor temples, we do not recommend to do in half day as it is not worth paying the Angkor pass. Even half day tour, have to buy full day ticket. Another reason, tourists do not have enough time to learn about the history of each temple plus the cycling 30km. So we recommend full day cycling tour to visit Angkor temples. Other trips does not require Angkor Pass: Coutryside Bike Ride or Tonle Sap bike ride.

This Angkor Wat Cycling Tour, we pick up from the hotel in Siem Reap where the mountain bikes have been prepared. Our cycling guide will brief on the tour. Cycling around Angkor is the best way to explore the temple complex. Starting to explore Angkor complex on the shady road with tree lines. Most recently potholes have been eliminated. There are one temple in almost every 2Km, so it won't be boring and it is worth to stop and take photo. Our guide can also take you to explore back road cycling on the gate of Angkor Thom. It is such a wonderful road for cycling, quiet and peaceful.

We ride approximately 30 km mostly on back road and off roads. Then it's worth taking the small road along east side of Siem Reap river to see lives of village before reaching to the the main road. Keep single line on the right hand side of the road.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Siem Reap - Small Circuit (30km)siem_reap_biking - Angkor complex
Welcome by our guide to do the biek fitting and tour briefing. Cycle toward the check point to purchase Angkor pass. There you will begin to see Kravan temple, Banteay Kdei, and stop at the famous Ta Phrom, embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers. Visit Ta Phrom (45 minutes-1 hour). It was built in 12th century by the famous King Jayavarvan VII indicated to his mother. While clearing back the forest archaeologists decided to leave the vegetation of Ta Phrom in place to serve as a reminder of how the original discoverers found it and the other Angkor temples. Many of the trees have grown around and through the remains and soar high above the temples.

Continue the cycling through small circuit passing Ta Keo temple, Chao Say Tevoda, Tommanon before reaching to Angkor Thom city. There you will see, Terrace of Leper King, Terrace of Elephant, Baphoun, Phimean Akas. Stop at Bayon temple and start the visit (45 minutes-1 hour). Angkor Thom built by Cambodia's great king, Jayavarman VII. An eight-meter high wall encloses this ten square kilometre city, which is encircled by a moat. The famous Bayon, in the geographical heart of Angkor Thom, is a remarkable 54 tower temple. Initially the temple appears to be a shapeless mass of grey and brown stone, but it is only as you get closer that you realize every tower has the carved face of Avalokiteshvara on it.

angkor_wat_bikingAfter the visit, we cycle to Angkor Wat to finish the small circuit. Stop at South Gate of Angkor Thom for taking photo. Access via a causeway over the moat that are flanked by statues of Gods on the left and devils on the right. We enjoy cycling on the back road on the great wall of Angkor Thom city. Then visit the magnificent 12th century Angkor Wat. It is visually, architecturally and artistically breathtaking. Angkor Wat is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five beehive-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. Suryavarman II constructed - Angkor Wat in the form of massive 'temple mountain' dedicated to the Hindu god, Vishnu. Return back to the hotel in Siem Reap.

I enjoyed it very much.  Cycling proved to be a wonderful way to see the temples and the surrounding countryside.  Much better than a car.  I honestly cannot think of anything for improvement.  The bike was quite comfortable, the lunch was lovely, and Da is an excellent guide.  It was also quite nice to have the support van with cold water and those refreshingly cold wipes.
I have friends coming to Siem Reap in November.  I've highly recommended the tour, so they should be contacting you soon.
