BIKING THE HISTORICAL & ANCIENT CAPITAL 11 DAYS / 10 NIGHTS:

TRIP PROFILE:

This biking trip is our new cycling tour starts and finishes in Siem Reap. This new trip suits all level of riders and not only the cyclists who just visit Cambodia for the first time but also for the riders who have already visited Cambodia before and would like to return for another new fun and enjoyable cycling routes. Cambodia Cycling professional team have carefully designed our routes which have not been done by the others. We cycle 606km, the cycling routes for this trip are 70 to 80% off road and back roads through the countryside, the rice fields, passing the remote villages seeing the wonderful smile of the children. The cycling routes for this trip is relatively flat, the average altitude is about 150m high. Only two places have higher altitude along the Dang Rek mountain range at Anlung Veang and Preah Vihear. When we arrive at these two places, we cycle up the hills for the sunset view if we still have got the energy. To view some off our cycling routes, please visit You Tube. To view some of previous customers traveling with us, please visit Trip Advisor or visit our Guest Book.

This cycling trip has got the most historical & cultural interests. Starting in Siem Reap, where we cycle through the countryside to take the boat trip on Tonle Sap lake to visit the floating village. Then we chronologically visit Pre-Angkoran Rolous Group before Angkor temple and the beautiful Banteay Srei and One Thousand Lingas. On the way, we stop to visit The Land Mines Museum of Mr. Akira to understand the landmines issue in Cambodia. From Siem Reap, we cycle to Beng Mealea, the lost temple of Indiana Jones and Koh Ker temple complex which been the capital of the King Jayavarman IV, reigned 928AD. From Koh Ker, we cycle off road to Anlung Veang, the former Khmer Rouge last strong hold where Pol Pot, their top leader died there in 1998 to end the Khmer Rouge. Then we cycle to visit Preah Vihear hill top temple located very close to the Thais border. Cambodia and Thailand has recently dispute over this temple when this temple is registered as the World Heritage Site under Cambodia. The dispute is over now and re-open for the tourists. From there, we cycle to the provincial capital of Preah Vihear for overnight. Then visit the last ancient capital en route, Preah Khan temple. This quiet and remote temple hidden in the jungles and stay away from the crowded Angkor complex. It was founded in 11th century, by the King Suryavarman I and it was the royal residence of the King Suryavarman II. The great King of Angkor, Jayavarman VII has lived there during the war with Champa Kingdom to recapture Angkor campital back from the Chams invading in 1181.

cambodia_tours_cycling_trips.jpgDepart from the hotel on the main road and cycling through Angkor pass check point. Cycling through the shady road with a little pumping because of the a few pot-holes. There you will begin to see Kravan temple, Banteay Kdei, and stop at the famous Ta Phrom, embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers. Visit Ta Phrom (45 minutes-1 hour). It was built in 12th century by the famous King Jayavarvan VII indicated to his mother. While clearing back the forest archaeologists decided to leave the vegetation of Ta Phrom in place to serve as a reminder of how the original discoverers found it and the other Angkor temples. Many of the trees have grown around and through the remains and soar high above the temples. Continue the cycling through small circuit passing Ta Keo temple, Chao Say Tevoda, Tommanon before reaching to Angkor Thom city. There you will see, Terrace of Leper King, Terrace of Elephant, Baphoun, Phimean Akas. Stop at Bayon temple and start the visit (45 minutes-1 hour). Angkor Thom built by Cambodia's great king, Jayavarman VII. An eight-meter high wall encloses this ten square kilometre city, which is encircled by a moat. The famous Bayon, in the geographical heart of Angkor Thom, is a remarkable 54 tower temple. Initially the temple appears to be a shapeless mass of grey and brown stone, but it is only as you get closer that you realize every tower has the carved face of Avalokiteshvara on it.

After the visit, cycle to Angkor Wat to finish the small circuit. Stop at South Gate of Angkor Thom for taking photo. Access via a causeway over the moat that are flanked by statues of Gods on the left and devils on the right. Then visit the magnificent 12th century Angkor Wat. It is visually, architecturally and artistically breathtaking. Angkor Wat is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five beehive-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. Suryavarman II constructed Angkor Wat in the form of massive 'temple mountain' dedicated to the Hindu god, Vishnu. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3: Beng Mealea and Village Experience (59km)
Start cycling straight way and the highlight of the tour will be the villages, the enjoyable off road track, the people, the wonderfull smile of the children. The basket weaving, the palm trees useful for our farmers as they make their roof from the sugar palm leaves, they drink sugar palm juice and they can eat and cook the sugar palm fruit.

Arrive in the village community center. Meet with the community representative and local guide who share their free time from farming to help teaching the children and extra work in the community. Take the ox-cart riding to the rice field. Cambodian people use ox-cart to go to the rice field and carry the rice to their village. Meet with the farmer in the rice field to learn the rice planting process. In 2016, Cambodia has exported 550,000 Tones of rice. It is one of the main source of economy in Cambodia apart from tourism and garment industry. Normally it takes 3 months for the farmer to grow the rice. Exprience the rice harvesting with the farmers using the traditional rice cutter.
