Angkor to Pakse 11 Days / 10 Nights

The starting point can be Paske or Angkor. To finish the trip in Pakse, we can also arrange the extension trip to northern Laos Vietntiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. To continue explore northern Laos by bike, we can arrange the flight ticket from Pakse to Vientiane. Then extend our Northern Adventure trip from Vientiane to Luang Prabang or join our reversed trip cycling from Vientiane to Bangkok.

Day 1: Cycling Small Circuit (30km)
Depart from the hotel on the main road and cycling through Angkor pass check point. Cycling through the shady road with a little pumping because of the a few pot-holes. There you will begin to see Kravan temple, Banteay Kdei, and stop at the famous Ta Phrom, embraced by the roots of enormous fig trees and gigantic creepers. Visit Ta Phrom (45 minutes-1 hour). It was built in 12th century by the famous King Jayavarvan VII indicated to his mother. While clearing back the forest archaeologists decided to leave the vegetation of Ta Phrom in place to serve as a reminder of how the original discoverers found it and the other Angkor temples. Many of the trees have grown around and through the remains and soar high above the temples. Continue the cycling through small circuit passing Ta Keo temple, Chao Say Tevoda, Tommanon before reaching to Angkor Thom city. There you will see, Terrace of Leper King, Terrace of Elephant, Baphoun, Phimean Akas. Stop at Bayon temple and start the visit (45 minutes-1 hour). Angkor Thom built by Cambodia's great king, Jayavarman VII. An eight-meter high wall encloses this ten square kilometre city, which is encircled by a moat. The famous Bayon, in the geographical heart of Angkor Thom, is a remarkable 54 tower temple. Initially the temple appears to be a shapeless mass of grey and brown stone, but it is only as you get closer that you realize every tower has the carved face of Avalokiteshvara on it.

After the visit, cycle to Angkor Wat to finish the small circuit. Stop at South Gate of Angkor Thom for taking photo. Access via a causeway over the moat that are flanked by statues of Gods on the left and devils on the right. Then visit the magnificent 12th century Angkor Wat. It is visually, architecturally and artistically breathtaking. Angkor Wat is a massive three-tiered pyramid crowned by five beehive-like towers rising 65 meters from ground level. Suryavarman II constructed Angkor Wat in the form of massive 'temple mountain' dedicated to the Hindu god, Vishnu. Overnight in Siem Reap. Meals include: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 2: Tonle Sap Lake - Kampong Phluk (50km)

Depart from the hotel, crossing the bridge at Old Market to cycle 15km toward Rolous Group. The first 2km, is on the tarmac road toward the bus station. Then, passing the rice field and the village. cycling to Tonle Sap Lake passing small road along the river through villages, pagodas and schools. This road is good for cycling as to avoid the busy traffic. After cycling 8km, turn right across the bridge to the main road as there is no further access on the small road. Continue cycling toward the lake about 3km (July-December) where the boat stop. (Note: January-June, the water is low and the boat will stop further 3km). Board on the boat to visit the village on water, school, fishing farm. After 1 hour boat drive. Return the Siem Reap on the main road to avoid cycling the same road. Afternoon, free at leisure to relax and enjoy complementary 30 minute massage. Dinner and overnight in Siem Reap.

Day 3: Siem Reap-Phnom Penh (Boat Ride & City Tour)
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to board speedboat to Phnom Penh (best from July to February). This boat trip takes 6 hours; the boat has life jacket and toilet. It is one of the best boat trip to cross Tonle Sap lake, one of the biggest fresh water lake in South-East Asia. When the boat leaves the dock, immediately you will be able to view the picturesque floating village. This community comprise of Cambodian, Vietnamese and Muslim minorities. The market, gas station and school are also floating. They move up and down depends on the season. In rainy season, Tonle Sap lake reaches 10,000 squre Km, but in dry season it's got only 5,000 squre Km. Arrive in Phnom Penh port, afternoon visit Cheung Ek Killing Field and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum. Overnight in Phnom Penh. (B,L,D)

Note: If the low water at Tonle Sap lake from March to June, we will transfer by van and do some cycling 50km.

Day 5: Phnom Penh - Kampong Cham (78km)
After breakfast, transfer 40 minutes to avoid the busy part of Phnom Penh. Start cycling from Roka Kong to follow the Mekong River. We stop for lunch at Peam Chikong. Late afternoon, we arrive in Kampong Cham, wander around to see the town (optional biking to the nearby Koh Pen island). Situated on the Mekong river, Kampong Cham has a great benefit of the delta to do the farming. Dinner and overnight in Kampong Cham. (B,L,D)

Day 6: Kampong Cham-Kratie  (80km)
After breakfast, cycle to visit Phnom Han Chey. There are some graves of the victims from the Khmer Rouge regim on beside the hill of Phnom Han Chey. Enjoy the water stop, local fruit, snack and drink. Then we board on the local ferry to cross Mekong river at Steung Trong. This area used to be the Khmer Rouge headquarter in early 1970s before they took control of Phnom Penh in April 1975. Lunch and relax on a big shade of the tree. Afternoon, we continue cycling along this fantastic view of the Mekong river. Then we transfer on the van to Kratie. If time permits, we board on the boat and head to see the endangered Irrawady dolphin. Dinner and overnight in Kratie. (B,L,D)

Day 7: Kratie-Stung Treng (90km)
Breakfast in Kratie. Fill the water and be prepared on the bike. We cycle to visit Wat Sarsar Moy Roy. After water stop, we turn back to the main road. Then we cycle a single line, watch out for the traffic as there are car and truck coming and going. Enjoy packed lunch on a big shade of the tree and relax on the mat. Afternoon we, cycle to complete our 90km, then we transfer by van to Stung Treng. The speciality of local food in Stung Treng is Ngem, the fresh fish wrapped in banana leaves. Dinner and overnight in Stung Treng. (B,L,D)


Day 8: Stung Treng-Laos border- 4 Thousand Islands (78km)
After breakfast, today we cycle to the Laos border. We visit Ou Svay community. Lunch with local family to experience rural Cambodia at it most authentic. After lunch we cycle to the border for immigration process, and say goodbye to our Cambodian driver who followed us in the supported van. Continue to cycle to visit water fall and enjoy the swimming and visit French death railways. If time permits, visit the Irrawady dolphin. Dinner and overnight in 4 Thousand Islands. (B,L,D)


Day 9: 4 Thousand Islands - Xe Pian National Biodiversity Center (60km)
Breakfast in Don Daet. Today, we cycle to visit 4 Thousand Islands known as Si Phan Don in Laos. The 4 Thousand Islands situated on the Mekong River including Don Som island and take the ferry to Don Khong island where we have lunch. After lunch, we cycle another 10km on dirt road to Xe Pian National Biodiversity & Conservation. Then cycle 3km up on down hill to visit Phu Asa temple and enjoy the sunset. Dinner and overnight in the Lodge. (B,L,D)

Day 10: Xe Pian - Wat Phou - Chamapsak (54km) (B,L,D)
Breakfast at the lodge to enjoy the bird life. We fill in the water and be ready to get on the bike to cycle from Xe Pian Biodiversity Conservation Center located near Cambodia border to Rattanakiri province. After the 10km on dirt road, we transfer on 1 hour on the main road to start cycling on quiet road to Ban Muang where we cross ferry to cycle to Wat Phou located on the foot of Champasak hill built by great Khmer King Jayavarman VII in 12th century. After the visit, we cycle 10km back to the lodge located along the Mekong river. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 11: Pakse Departure
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Pakse 30-45 minutes for your onward departure. (B) Tour Ends.

Road Surface This tour mostly follows asphalt roads, and one dirt road passing the countryside and the rice field. The back road along the Mekong river and village is small but good enough for cycling, less busy. A little bit sandy.
