Combine the sights of Southern Laos with the Bolaven Plateau the world heritage site of Wat Phu and the natural wetlands of Si Pan Don the 4000 Islands
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Day 1: Pakse – Tad Lo (L)
Departing Pakse of pick up from Pakse Airport and drive east climbing in elevation to a local tea and coffee plantation where you can gain an insight into the industry which thrives on the fertile volcanic soil on the Bolaven Plateau. Enjoy a Lao style coffee before continuing to the famous Tad Fane waterfall with its two stunning cascades framed against the Bolaven Plateau, it drops nearly 120m, making it one of the most spectacular sights in Laos. After leaving Tad Fane, visit the ethnic village of Kok Pun Thai where we can see how people have been living for hundreds of years in small communities in this region. Spend the afternoon and evening at Tad Lo Waterfall, relaxing in the most pristine of environments.
Day 2: Tad Lo - Champasak (B/L)
After a leisurely breakfast take a gentle walk to see one of the ethnic villages, before having lunch. Travel west across the plateau to the Katu ethnic village of Lao Ngam, the Katu minority have a strong tradition of silk weaving using foot looms which you will see the local women weaving. The many beautiful cloths on show are for sale and make great souvenirs. Continue to the town of Champasak.
Day 3: Wat Phu Champasak – Ban Kiat Ngong
Spend the morning at the pre Angkor temples of Wat Phu before crossing over the Mekong River and heading south to Ban Kiat Ngong and the wetlands of Xe Pian. (B/L)
Day 4: Ban Kiat Ngong - Don Khong (B/L)
Enjoy an elephant ride or gentle 3km walk to the archaeological site of Phu Asa, these temple ruins are situated at the top of the hill with excellent views over the surrounding area. On returning to Ban Kiat Ngong, continue to Don Khong the largest of the 4000 Islands.
Day 5: Don Khong – Pakse (B/L)
Take a boat ride through the 4000 Islands past Don Det to the old French Railway Bridge at Don Khone take a short walk to Liphi before taking a boat ride to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins finishing up at the Laos / Cambodian border. Travel back to Pakse stopping along the way at Khon Phapeng Waterfall the ‘Niagara of the East’.
Day 6: Pakse – Departure (B)
Transfer to Pakse Airport or Ubon Ratchatani across the border in Thailand for your onward flight.
